Hairdressers on drug counts...

THE owner of a city hairdressing salon and his wife have been committed for trial in the District Court on drugs charges.

Peco Angeleski, 32, and his wife, Alison Rhonda Angeleski, also 32, were arrested after police raided their St Georges Terrace apartment and their shop in April.

Their telephones were tapped during the investigation.

The apartment and an investment property in Joondanna - valued collectively at more than $600,000 - could be forfeited if Mr Angeleski is convicted and declared a drug trafficker.

Mr Angeleski is facing one charge of supplying methylamphetamine, two charges of possessing the drug with intent to sell or supply it and one charge of stealing four sets of scales valued at more than $16,000.

Mrs Angeleski is facing one charge of possessing methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply.

The couple were due to have a preliminary hearing in Perth Magistrate's Court yesterday but elected not to contest the evidence.

After reading various witness statements, Magistrate Giuseppe Cicchini committed them to trial in the District Court.

Mr Angeleski was remanded in custody and his wife was released on bail. They will make their first District Court appearance in February but a trial is likely to be many months away.

It is alleged that on March 15, Mr Angeleski supplied a drug courier with 502g of methylamphetamine - worth up to $500,000 on the streets - which was taken to Sydney. The courier was arrested in Sydney the next day.

Organised crime unit officers then kept a close watch on the couple and their movements. On April 6, they obtained warrants to search Mr Angeleski's shop - T.B.S. Man & Woman hair salon - on St Georges Terrace and the couple's apartment above the salon.

Perth Magistrate's Court was told that the charge against Mrs Angeleski related to the alleged finding inside a Chivas Regal whisky box of three plastic bags containing quantities of methylamphetamine.

The charges against Mr Angeleski related to the alleged finding of two plastic bags containing methylamphetmine under a mattress in the apartment and other quantities of the drug found in the salon.

Also yesterday, prosecutor Raelerne Johnston told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions was not proceeding with eight charges of money laundering laid against Mr Angeleski.
